Since I am turning 50 this year, I wanted to do something special to celebrate this “Golden Jubilee Year” with a big Bavarian Bash at the Vancouver Alpen Club. After some brainstorming, I realized the best way to go about this was to organize a fundraiser to connect community, bring people together, while doing something good for German Seniors and other loved ones who live in the German Canadian Care Home.
Thanks to a lot of enthusiasm and excitement from various groups, we now have a whole bunch of them involved in this project that will be taking place on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at the Vancouver Alpen Club between 5:30 pm and 8:30 pm. The official title is “A Fundraiser for the benefit of the German-Canadian Benevolent Society Outreach Program“.
The German Canadian Business Association, under the leadership of President Beatrice Schreiber, will be one of the hosts. The other is the German Consulate under the leadership of Consul General Dr. Klaus Schmidt. Of course, we are working with the German-Canadian Benevolent Society under the leadership of CEO Jutta Purchase, along with the Vancouver Alpen Club under the leadership of Lorenzo Lepore.
We were fortunate to find a generous sponsor for this event, as PARC RETIREMENT LIVING, came on board to help sponsor the band and other important event items. PARC Retirement Living provides vibrant, independent living residences where seniors can thrive and engage with a community of vibrant, like-minded people.
Beatrice Schreiber and her husband Stefan Schreiber, founders of the Bel Art Gallery, were the first to offer a painting as a door prize. We will still be collecting gift baskets, products and services from people to give away during this event. If you would like to donate something, please contact Elke at 604 828 8788, so we can arrange a pick up or drop off location.
We are also fortunate to be able to book the S-Bahn. Singer and accordionist Richard Tyce founded the S-Bahn Band in Vancouver in the early 90’s. With a diverse and eclectic repertoire, the S-Bahn specializes in Oktoberfests and live music concerts and will be guaranteed to get your toes tapping and your knee slapping while clapping along to the familiar tunes.
Enjoy a Schnitzel dinner, coffee/tea and cake, hear from the various German groups and associations and our sponsors and listen to live music, while having the opportunity to win some amazing door prizes and this will be an event worth supporting! If you can’t attend, you are welcome to just buy the $20 fundraising ticket that will go straight to the care home.
